CrossFit will increase payment for games, includes all individuals and adaptive divisions

CrossFit announced it is extending its Games payout for the 2022 season. The total purse will increase by $330,000 from last season to more than $2.8 million, the largest in its history. The number of athletes receiving a share of the purse will include all individual elite athletes, top 10 teams and adaptive athletes from all 8 divisions.
Although there is an increase in the total scholarship, the Fittest on Earth will receive the same amount as last year. The biggest difference this year is that more athletes will now receive part of the scholarship.
What’s new?
Individual athletes
Last year, and at previous CrossFit Games, only the top 20 individual athletes would receive a portion of the total purse based on their final ranking. That has now extended to the 40 elite athletes competing in Madison this year.
Teams
Previously, only the top 5 teams won part of the scholarship. Now the top 10 teams will receive money based on the placement in the leaderboard.
Adapted athletes
In 2021, 8 adaptive splits were introduced for the first time in the CrossFit season. The best of the three divisions (Upper Limb, Lower Limb and Neuromuscular) were invited to compete for the title of Fittest Adaptive Athlete on Earth. Only podium finishers from these 3 divisions received a portion of the purse at the end of the CrossFit Games in 2021.
Although this year we will continue to have athletes from the same 3 divisions competing in Madison, the top 3 athletes from all other divisions will also earn a portion of the purse awarded this year.
“Five of the 8 divisions will name their champions in the semifinals of the competition, and the top three from each division will receive the same prize as the three divisions that will face off in Madison,” CrossFit announced.
