DSWD Resumes Education Aid Disbursement in Western Visayas – Manila Bulletin

ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-6 will resume the distribution of cash aid to indigent students in Western Visayas on Saturday, September 17, after receiving additional funding of 26 million pesos from the main office in Quezon City.

DSWD-6 Director Carmelo Nochete and new DSWD-6 Deputy Regional Director for Operations Joselito Estember held an emergency meeting on Friday, September 16 with team leaders and technical staff regarding resumption of assessment and payment of education assistance.

As of this week, over 591,000 students and their parents in the Western Visayas are applying for financial aid through the DSWD-6 online application system.

Atti. May Rago-Castillo, DSWD-6’s information officer, said only those whose payment is scheduled for Saturday will be accommodated.

A student or their parents must obtain confirmation by SMS or e-mail before going to the distribution site.

As of Saturday, September 10, DSWD-6 has released 101 million pesos to 36,131 student beneficiaries in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo and Negros Occidental as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

On Thursday, September 15, DSWD-6 announced that it could no longer give cash assistance because there were no more funds available.
